10 reasons to send business Christmas Cards this year… Number 8 is a no brainer!

    1. It tells your customers that you still exist to provide them with your services. It’s quite possible people will have a doubt about what businesses are still around after this year’s COVID-19 drama.
    2. It’s another way to thank them for their relationship – maybe include a gift, like a custom voucher, tucked inside? (Why not consider custom thank you cards to send out during the year too – we can help you with those).
    3. To tell them about anything new you are doing – you could include a flyer about this. Many companies have changed what they do or the services they offer in light of COVID-19. (Talk to us for a flyer quote).
    4.     5. It continues to boost confidence in your brand – a branded card speaks much more than something purchased in a shop. It is most cost effective – when you consider most good cards in the shop are over £1 each. Some we have done recently worked out at only 24p each (148mm square) and 17p each (rectangular, A5 folded to A6). We can also provide you with a quote for design (if needed). Here are some some design examples put together for our customers:

7. They don’t have to be business branded – have a different design as your own personal cards – again, more cost effective than from the shops – and much more personal.
8. The open rate of an email campaign recently was estimated at 80% (see https://www.campaignmonitor.com/resources/guides/email-marketing-benchmarks/)- So out of 100 contacts, less than 18 will open them.
With that in mind, what percentage will open a Christmas card from you? To answer that question – how many Christmas cards do you open that arrive in the post? So, in many ways, this would be better than an email campaign.
Something to bear in mind while considering other cards too during the year – Easter, Birthdays, Anniversaries and Thank You cards.
9. Depending on who you send these to, why not include a newsletter – your latest email campaign, but in printed format – the open rate will end up being more!
10. The human touch – we have all been stuck behind screens for so long this year! Greeting cards carry with them a sense of warmth and appropriate intimacy that makes the content of the card all that more important to the recipient. Especially at this time, include a personal message – tempting as it may be to have everything automated – a personal pen written message will stand out as very human in such a technologically drenched time.

Helping launch a brand new magazine – 60 second pitch

Recently we were recommended to a young lady who needed help formatting her first magazine for printing. Here is a brief summary in the format of a 60 second business pitch (read out at our excellent business referral meeting BNI Fortress Fareham):

Good morning,

Nigel Williams from Afford A Print, based in Southampton, delivering across the UK.

Story this week, another 5 star review on Freeindex saying this:

“I ordered 200 copies of a children’s magazine I put together. I’m thirteen years old and never done anything like this before…..”

So – we provided help from the ground up – about what she needed to do to make her magazine format ready to print.

Making the most of your programme printing

The programme has been a integral part of the sports and entertainment industries for hundreds of years. The first programme is said to have been distributed to theatre-goers sometime during the 18th century. Programmes (also known as “playbills” in theatres) contain information about the event to which the programme is associated. Depending on the size and purpose of the event, as well as the event venue, programmes are either sold or given to attendees. Today, some older programmes or those associated with memorable events are considered collectors’ items.

We at Afford A Print will help you make the most of your event programme. In this article, we will consider several tips for developing and printing an effective programme.

  1. Know Your Audience – Programmes are event-specific. While there can be great diversity among event attendees, they will all have at least one thing in common—interest in your event. Your target audience should be foremost in your mind as you develop your programme. Everything from font style to graphics to which advertisers you select to appear in your programme—every element of your programme should promote your event, pique the interest of your audience, benefit your advertisers, and let your audience know who to credit for hosting such a great event.
  2. Know Your Advertisers – Events are often underwritten by the sale of advertising, in the event programme. You will want to look for advertisers that have a vested interest in the type of programme you are hosting. If your event is sports-related, then you want to solicit sporting goods shops and the like. If your event is music-related, then music shops and/or studios of various entertainment disciplines would be the type of advertisers to seek for your programme.
  3. Price List for Your Advertisers – Before contacting potential advertisers, put together a price list for advertising space (i.e. ¼-sheet, ½-sheet, full sheet). Be ready to explain how their advertising money will be used: for example, how many will be reading your printed programme? What are the statistics of those who will look upon the pages?
  4. Featured Articles – Depending on the kind of event you are hosting, you may want to consider including event-related featured articles. For instance, if your event is a fundraiser for a local animal shelter, an article about the mutual benefits of pet adoption written by the director of the shelter may be appropriate. Is your event a concert by a community choir? Consider having the choir director write an article about choral music.
